Stand Up For Women

Empowering Women Everywhere
SOHFWA is committed to supporting the girl child during menstruation, enhancing access to education, and providing critical life skills for survival and development. We believe that empowering girls is key to transforming families and communities, and ultimately creating a poverty-free society.

Mission
Support and empower girls and women to create a poverty-free zone

Spirit of Hope for Women - Africa (SOHFWA) is a registered Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) founded in 2018. Our mission began as a community-based project serving rural Wakiso, Uganda, with a passion for transforming lives through education, empowerment, and health support for young girls, especially in vulnerable communities.
Our Vision
Our menstrual hygiene initiative provides reusable sanitary pads and menstrual hygiene education to girls in rural schools. We also advocate for girl-child education by providing resources, mentorship, and engaging parents to support the academic and personal growth of their daughters.
At the core of our work is the belief that empowering women and girls leads to healthier, more resilient, and economically stable communities.

Our Initiatives

MENSTRUAL HYGIENE MANAGEMENT PROGRAM
Menstrual hygiene challenges remain one of the leading causes of school dropouts among girls in rural Uganda. SOHFWA addresses this by: - Providing free reusable sanitary pad kits that last over 12 months. - Training girls on menstrual hygiene and how to make their own reusable pads. - Improving access to water, sanitation, and hygiene facilities in schools. - Reducing stigma and restoring self-esteem in young girls.
Program Outcomes: - Improved school attendance and retention among girls. - Enhanced self-esteem and dignity during menstruation. - Skills development in pad making and hygiene education. - Stronger motivation to pursue education.

EDUCATION INITIATIVE
SOHFWA promotes education as a tool for breaking cycles of poverty. Our focus is on: - Advocating for equal access to education for girls. - Partnering with schools and parents to support girls’ academic journeys. - Addressing barriers such as early marriage, gender-based violence, and lack of school materials.
We recognize that educating girls contributes directly to national development and helps build an inclusive, empowered society.
Barriers Addressed: - Gender-based violence and unsafe environments. - Cultural practices limiting girls’ education. - Lack of menstrual products and basic necessities. - Vulnerability due to orphanhood or poverty.
SKILLING PROGRAM
To help women and girls gain economic independence, SOHFWA operates training programs focused on: - Sewing and tailoring - Pad production for personal use and income generation - Life and vocational skills for self-reliance
This program reduces dependency and offers young women constructive alternatives to early marriage and unemployment.
